To Everything, Turn…Turn…Turn

Alan's Turning Log – Adventures in Wood Turning

About

I (Alan) am a wood turner and have been since 2013.  In high school I remember turning a small tool handle and I remember I quite enjoyed it.  Many years later I took a Pen-Turning Class at Lee Valley and I have been hooked ever since.  It took 6 months of comparison shopping and research before I found the lathe that I wanted and, thanks to the Bank of Canada (Income Tax return) I was able to purchase my first Midi Lathe.  After playing with it for a couple of weeks, and after having an allergic reaction to one of the woods, I thought that I should keep track of this type of thing.  Most wood turners are posting videos on YouTube, but I just want to write a bit and not get into a whole new hobby of video-editing.

Nowadays, I have expanded my hobbies to include Watercolour painting, leatherwork, photography, and I continue to turn pens, and bottle stoppers, key chains… etc.  In the weeks ahead, I hope to fill in some of the holes in my artistic journey.

    Hello Alan,
I like your site. I was very impressed by the wall holder for the Bagpipe Banner. Can you make one of these for me? It looks really neat and I haven’t seen one like that before.
    Regards,
    Jim
